Why this place matters

Mihintale is traditionally regarded as the place where Arahat Mahinda met King Devanampiyatissa in the 3rd century BCE, an encounter associated with the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. It remains one of the island’s most important Buddhist pilgrimage landscapes.
